Listed Building Repairs
Please be advised that to enable essential repairs to be made to the hotel scaffolding has been erected to the front of the property. This will remain in place for approximately six weeks from the 26th October 2016. As you may be aware, the Prince Rupert Hotel is a Grade 2* Listed Building and is classified by English Heritage within the top 5% of important historic buildings within the UK. We work closely with this organisation to ensure that the hotel is maintained to the correct standards and to ensure that the longevity of the building is continued. Whilst the repairs are undertaken we will also take the opportunity to completely redecorate the exterior of the hotel. To enable the workforce to undertake their tasks the scaffolding has been waterproofed which will obstruct the views from eight of our front facing bedrooms.
We will, of course, endeavour to allocate the bedrooms which are affected on a last selling basis but if you have specifically requested a front facing bedroom directly above the entrance to the hotel may we suggest you contact the hotel should you wish to amend your reservation. Thank you for your assistance and understanding.
Great British Ghosts
The Prince Rupert Hotel recently featured on television in Great British Ghosts with Michaela Strachen. Both Mike Matthews (the owner of the Prince Rupert Hotel) and Martin Wood (Shrewsbury’s Town Crier and ghost author) featured as the cameras explored the historic past.
Winner – Shrewsbury in Bloom
Once again, the Prince Rupert Hotel was awarded the Gold Prize in the annual competition for the very best hanging baskets and flower display within Shrewsbury. Despite intense competition from other hotels for 2012 the flowers looked spectacular and the judges commented on their lush colours and the manner in which they were manicured. We will do our very best to maintain the trophy for 2013.
Renovation of the ground floor Gentlemen’s toilets
These contemporary state of the art toilets were officially opened in 2012 after a complete renovation. They now feature Italian Porcelanosa black wall tiles, Stardust Galaxy granite vanity and Italian Roco luxury basins with mono taps.
Granite reception counter
2012 also saw the fitting of a new Stardust Galaxy granite reception counter. Further plans are currently being drawn to completely upgrade both the reception and ground floor lounge areas.
Ongoing bathroom/bedroom refurbishment
During 2012, over twenty bathrooms were upgraded using Italian designer tiles, black granite vanities, luxury Roco basins and mono taps. The remainder of the bathrooms are due for completion in early 2013. All seventy bedrooms have now been fitted with new designer fabrics from Skopos and Panaz together with high quality Hypnos pocket sprung beds.
Future projects for 2013
Planning permission has recently been granted for three fabulous projects which will be completed in 2013:
- The opening of our 60 cover exterior garden terrace which will provide a fantastic private area for guests and non-residents to wine and dine adjacent to the historical 12th Century Mansion House.
- A second floor loft suite is being created by joining two large bedrooms and constructing a mezzanine floor with a sweeping spiral staircase. The upper floor will feature a home cinema room and library.
- On the third floor of the hotel a front facing bedroom is being adjoined to a south facing balcony creating the only bedroom in Shrewsbury with a private external terrace with magnificent views over the skyline of the town and over to Shrewsbury School and beyond.
